PLACE Alliance, in partnership with Vanasse Hangen Brustlin (VHB), is currently engaged in developing a downtown redevelopment plan and a new city-wide Form Based Code for the City of Ocala in central Florida. The Ocala 2035 Vision addresses design, use and connectivity of the community’s streets; the relationship of its buildings to those streets and how the buildings and streets best serve the community’s pedestrians; and the visual characteristics and separation of uses of the community’s buildings, neighborhoods, commercial districts and open spaces. Based upon community consensus, this plan will ensure continued support and implementation over time. The Form Based Code component seeks to provide the City and staff with the appropriate “tools” to easily and effectively manage development and to help better inform policy decisions related to future growth. The Form Based Code is slated for final submission in April of 2013 and will culminate three years of design and consulting efforts that will combine the development of a new regulatory environment with a transformative and market responsive vision for the downtown core of the City of Ocala.
