Ian Law, RLA

As head of the PLACE Alliance New York Design Studio, Ian is one of the North Eastern Region’s leaders in urban design and planning. His 20 years of experience in landscape architecture and urban planning, downtown revitalization, and community master planning have spanned a wide variety of award-winning projects, including the State Street Streetscape in Schenectady, NY, the One Monument Square Urban Redevelopment Vision for Troy, NY, the Downtown/Waterfront Master Plan for Port Chester, NY, and the Prattsville Long Term Community Recovery Plan. A firm believer in a collaborative design process, Ian has been the team leader for dozens of design charrettes and community design forums. His international experience has included such diverse projects as the Ancient Yellow River Urban Master Plan in Suqian, China and the Rio Chile Riverfront Park planning project in Arequipa, Peru. Ian takes a hands-on approach to design and is actively engaged in all phases of a project, from schematic design to construction documents and construction administration. As a recognized expert in sustainable design and planning, Ian has presented throughout the Country on the importance of integrating planning and design and issues of scale and context when applying the principles of Urbanism. In 2014, Ian presented at both the National Congress for New Urbanism (CNU) Conference and the National American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Conference. In 2017 Ian was a Keynote Speaker at the NC State University Annual Urban Design Conference.
